LEABURG: Area residents will gain a look at sustainable forestry next week. The Eugene Water & Electric Board has contracted with Trout Mountain Forestry to create a Stewardship Plan for the Leaburg Forest. As part of its Healthy Forests Clean Water Program, EWEB plans to actively manage 60 acres of the 900-acre property. The project was designed to demonstrate best forest management practices to protect water quality and improve forest health. Work will include protection of sensitive habitat areas, tree thinning and replanting for diversity, and the removal of invasive plants.

Master Plan up for review in Leaburg Thursday night

LEABURG: The Parks Division is asking the public’s opinions on how to manage 70 different properties scattered throughout Lane County. A number of public workshops on the 20-year kicked off this week, including one  at McKenzie Fire & Rescue’s  Leaburg Training Center on Thursday night.
Public input submitted so far included comments about a number of McKenzie River area sites, like the Hendricks Bridge Park in Walterville. One note from Lynn Moore cited concerns of neighbors who worry that adding an RV slots there would increase and traffic impact safety. “We will have more accidents, crime, and we do not want this park to become a campground,” she wrote.

EWEB logoThe Eugene Water & Electric Board must replace a rotted transmission pole on the north side of Highway 126 adjacent to Leaburg Lake. In order to replace the pole, line technicians will de-energize the overhead lines, resulting in an electric outage to customers from the north end of Leaburg Lake east to Thomson Lane.

OSP logoLEABURG: On September 28, 2016 at about 3:20AM, OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a single vehicle crash into a power pole on Highway 126E near milepost 19 (west of Leaburg).
Preliminary investigation revealed a 1992 Toyota pickup was traveling westbound on Highway 126E when it drifted off the roadway and rolled in the westbound ditch.
