Last week's edition of McKenzie River Reflections (4/17/14) had a headline that should have read "Airlifted driver cited for DUII." The driver, Wanda Keller of McKenzie Bridge, was cited by OSP for DUII and Reckless Driving. She has not been convicted.

Sister JohnSister John Backenstos is well-known by people up and down the McKenzie River for her undying efforts to help those in need.  Whether by providing food or other necessary items she lived out her call as a religious sister to help those who had no one else to help them.

MYRTLE CREEK: The 3rd Annual Dinner on the Horse Creek Covered Bridge was held last Saturday evening in Myrtle Creek to another sold out crowd of 90 people, the maximum capacity for the historic bridge originally built in 1930 to span Horse Creek in the vicinity of McKenzie Bridge in Lane County.

MCKENZIE BRIDGE: The McKenzie River Ranger Station has been awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver from the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED is a program that provides a third party verification of green buildings and rates them on a scale from Certified, Silver, Gold to Platinum. The Ranger Station scored 59 points, one point below Gold.

“We are very proud to have a certified green building,” said Terry Baker, McKenzie River District Ranger. “Not only is it energy efficient, but it is composed of Northwest products, built by Northwest labor.”
