Snow on backcountry roadOfficials are reminding visitors to the Willamette National Forest that they will encounter a wide range of driving conditions from now through spring. Many roads, especially those in higher elevations, have already become impassable due to snow.

Forest Service roads are not maintained for winter travel. This includes popular and scenic double-lane, paved roads such as Forest Highway 19 (North Fork Road/Aufderheide Drive), Forest Highway 46 (Breitenbush Road), and Forest Highway 21 (Middle Fork Road).

After a weekend of much-needed snowfall in the mid-Cascades, the Hoodoo Ski Area will open its 75th season of operation on Friday, December 7th, at 9 a.m. "Stay tuned for trail and lift updates as we are expected to get 4-8 inches of snow before Friday," according to general manager Matthew McFarland.

12/4/12 ODOT crews in Lane County today were busy responding to weather related issues affecting state highways

On US 101, approximately 12 miles north of Florence, crews were called out at 3:16 a.m. to remove a large tree that had fallen across the highway and into utility lines.  One lane was reopened at 7:39 a.m. and the highway was fully reopened at 11:18 a.m.

A Flood Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for late tonight through Wednesday afternoon for northwest Oregon rivers
