CONCERT
Folk music legend Judy Collins will bring her farewell tour to Eugene’s McDonald Theatre on Saturday, October 3, with Canadian singer-songwriter Bruce Cockburn joining her for the evening.
The “Sweet Judy Blue Eyes: Farewell Tour” concert begins at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. The all-ages show will feature reserved seating.
Collins, 87, announced that the tour will be her final extended concert tour, with more than 50 performances scheduled from this summer through spring 2027.
Collins rose to prominence during the 1960s folk revival and became known for recordings including “Both Sides, Now,” “Send in the Clowns” and “Someday Soon.”
“Touring has been the great thread of my life-city to city, song to song, face to face,” Collins said in announcing the tour. She described the farewell concerts as her way of thanking the audiences who have supported her throughout her career.
The Oct. 3 concert will be held at the McDonald Theatre in downtown Eugene.
SEARCHERS
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting adult volunteers to join its Search and Rescue program, with three required information sessions scheduled in October.
Anyone interested in applying must attend one of the sessions at Harris Hall, 125 E. 8th Ave. in Eugene. Sessions will be held Thursday, October 8; Sunday, Oct. 11; and Tuesday, Oct. 20, all beginning at 6 p.m.
Volunteers must be prepared to respond day or night, often in bad weather and challenging conditions. They may also have opportunities to serve on specialized teams, including ground search, mountain rescue, search K9 and special vehicle teams.

NIGHT SKY
The Blue River Park will host a casual “Evening in the Park” event on October 9th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The sun will set at 6:35 pm, Civil Twilight ends at 7:04 pm, and Astronomical Twilight ends at 8:11 pm. October 10 is a new moon, it sets at 5:56 pm on the 9th.
Park users will be encouraged to note changes that occur around dusk and the gathering dark both in the night sky and the environment. What insects prefer the evening and night hours? What are the first stars to become visible? Come, observe, and experience.
This event will occur regardless of the weather. The Park will have red taillight tape to mask white flashlights in order to better preserve participants’ night vision. (Even cell phone light can destroy night vision.) In addition, bollards will be removed to allow easier access to the open area of the park.
