Jeanette Louise Mastrantonio

MANZANITA, OR: Jeanette Louise Mastrantonio died on May 8th in Manzanita. She was 73 years old.

She was born on September 1st, 1938 in Eugene. She graduated from the McKenzie River High School and the University of Oregon. She was the first Public Information Officer for the Willamette National Forest in Eugene and was transferred to the Pacific Southwest Research Station in Berkeley, California as an information specialist.

She started a quarterly publication for forest managers, Forestry Research West, and returned to Portland as a speechwriter for the Pacific Northwest Regional Forester, Department of Agriculture. In 1973 she became the Public Affairs Officer for the Pacific Northwest Research Station. She was selected as a representative of the U.S. to attend the Eighth World Forestry Congress held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Louise retired in 1986 and began freelance writing along with a personal project about the first seed companies in the U.S. and the men and women who started them. Her impressive research and collection will be donated to the New York Botanical Garden.

She loved gardening, gourmet cooking, playing the piano, baking cookies and berry pies, picking wild blackberries and huckleberries, and entertaining family and friends.

Louise was married to John Parker for seven years, and to Robert Mastrantonio for over twenty years. She was preceded in death by a nephew, David Michael Carter in 1986, and is survived by Jean McBride Carter, her identical twin sister, and her niece Carolyn Carter Barker along with her stepchildren Rob and Lori Mastrantonio and families.
