Vida Center honors Wilson

Clubhouse becomes "Walter Wilson Hall"

Walter Wilson HallVIDA: Just a dozen years ago, the future of the McKenzie River Club and the building it met in seemed bleak. The club’s membership and attendance were in decline and so was the structure on a hill above Thomson Lane.

Today, though, things have changed. The group incorporated and changed its name from the McKenzie River Club to the Vida McKenzie Community Center in the 2000. Since then, the structure has been attended to - both inside and out. Upgrades have ranged from the heating system to flooring while new paint and concrete walkways have added to the outdoor amenities. That work was done by many members of the Center from a long list of names that almost involves the whole membership.

Several organizations now use the Center on a monthly basis; including the Neighborhood Watch, Sew and So’s craft group, Bunco, Late Bloomers Garden Club, AARP Driver Safety Program, McKenzie River Lions, a Yoga group and an annual writers workshop.

As often happens, an individual can become the spakplug that keeps an organization running. During the regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Vida-McKenzie Community Center on September 12th, a resolution was made (and passed unanimously) to dedicate the meeting hall of the Center to Walter Wilson.

The resolution acknowledged “The selfless and diligent efforts of Walter for his involvement with the center over these many years, including serving as President of the Board currently and ongoing. Walt steers the Center in its function as a meeting hall and center of activity for the McKenzie Valley.”
