McKenzie Boys Open League With 2 Wins

The McKenzie Eagles began their defense of last season’s undefeated Mt. West League Championship with two League victories on the road. On Tuesday, Dec. 4, McKenzie traveled to meet the 2010-11 State Champions, Siletz Warriors. Siletz, always a worthy and dangerous team in their own gym, fell to the Eagles 54 to 46. Senior Blake Anderson led his team with a hard earned double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Fellow seniors Victor Vidal and Caleb Scrivner scored 13 points and 10 points respectively to in the win. On the following Thursday evening, the Eagle boys took the shorter trip to Marcola to tip off against the Mohawk Indians. McKenzie cruised to a 67 to 36 victory as Anderson continued to find the bottom of the net as he again led his team with 16 points. Teammate Caleb Scrivner scored 12 points as well for the Eagles. With the two victories and no defeats, McKenzie is currently at the top of the Mt. West League standings with Crow (1-0) and Triangle Lake (1-0). The Eagles continue League play on Tuesday, Dec. 11, when they host the Mapleton Sailors (tip-off 7 pm.). The Class 2A Oakridge Warriors representing the Mt. View League arrive the next night for a non-league contest, with tip-off again at 7 pm. McKenzie packs its bags for Mollala the following Friday evening, Dec. 14 (7 pm.), as the Eagles meet the Country Christian Cougars in the opening round of the annual Country Christian Cougar Basketball Tournament. McKenzie won the tournament last year. The Eagles will then play in Tournament play on Saturday, with their opponent to yet be decided.

Eagle Girls Basketball Defeat Siletz to Open 2012-13 Season

McKenzie Eagle Girl’s Basketball picked up where they left off last season with a 1A Oregon State Basketball Championship as they defeated the Siletz Warriors, 36 to 20, on the road last Tuesday, Dec. 4. Sophomore Buggy Hiddleston led her team’s efforts with 10 points on the evening, while Senior teammate Sydney King added another nine points. The Eagles did not accompany the Boys team to Mohawk the following Thursday as Mohawk, unfortunately, is not fielding a Girls team this season. Currently, the Eagles are knotted up at the top of the League Standings with Triangle Lake, Crow, and Lowell, all at 1-0 in League. McKenzie hosts the Mapleton Sailors, 5:30 pm. tip-off, on Tuesday, Dec. 11 and Oakridge, same time, on Wednesday, Dec. 12. The Eagle Girls travel with the Boys team to participate in the Country Christian Tournament on Friday, Dec. 14, with their first opponent the host Cougars.
