Fatal wreck in McKenzie Bridge

The Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into a Saturday afternoon single-vehicle fatal traffic crash along Highway 126E just east of McKenzie Bridge that resulted in the death of a 67-year old woman. Names will be released Sunday morning to allow family more time for notifications.

The accident, on December 15th, occurred at approximately 1:25 p.m. It involved a 1979 Ford pickup driven by a 71-year old male from Springfield that was eastbound near milepost 51. While negotiating a sweeping left curve, the driver lost control on the snow/ice covered roadway. The pickup traveled off the south shoulder and overturned on its side in a ditch.

The driver's 67-year old wife/passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver was not injured. Both were using safety restraints.

OSP troopers from the Springfield Area Command office will be completing the investigation. Senior Trooper Rick Hamilton is the lead investigator. Police were assisted at the scene by the Upper McKenzie Fire Dept. and ODOT.

OSP and ODOT urge drivers to be prepared now for winter driving conditions - including ice and snow on many roads. Know before you go by checking ODOT's
