Eagle Girls Beat Eddyville, Tied for League Lead

McKenzie played host to the Eddyville Eagle Girls Basketball team last Monday evening in a Mt. West League make up game that had been postponed due to weather conditions earlier in the season. The home Eagles defeated the coastal visitors 48-32 behind the scoring efforts of Makaila Hiddleston, who led all scorers with 22 pts. Hiddleston earned her own double-double by also hauling in 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Teammate Samantha Winningham dropped in 7 pts. to go along with 3 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. McKenzie held a 16-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter, but the feisty Eddyville team closed the gap in the second quarter as McKenzie's lead slipped to 3 at the break, 20-17. Head McKenzie Coach David Duncan had his team ready following halftime locker session as the home Eagles outscored Eddyville 18-9 to open up the game. The score at the end of the 3rd quarter was 38-26 and McKenzie secured the win by outscoring the visitors 10-6 in the final quarter. With the victory, McKenzie (currently ranked 17th in the OSAA State rankings) earned a tie at the top of the Mt. West League standings with the 6th ranked Triangle Lake Lakers. Both teams are 5-0 in League play. McKenzie is 9-2 overall on the season and the Lakers are 11-2. Both teams lock horns this Friday, Jan. 11, at Triangle Lake with the tip off set at 5:30 pm. for the girls and 7:00 pm. for the Boys. The Eagle Boys (5-0, 6-6) are one-half game back of the Laker Boys (6-0, 10-4) in the Mt. West League standings. Triangle Lake's gym will be packed and standing room only for the games, so supporters should arrive early to secure a good seat.
