Cinco de Mayo gives grins

Grinning girlsMarissa and Erica McClintock, 5-year old twins from Coos Bay, OR, enjoy free pastries at the Cinco de Mayo party.  The McClintock family regularly vacations at Black Butte Ranch and says they “always stop at Ike’s” when traveling through the McKenzie River Valley.

The McKenzie River Lions Club had an all-day Cinco de Mayo fundraising party at Ike’s Pizza which was so successful that Ike’s was running out of food by the end of the evening.  Ike’s contributed 25% of the sales to the Lions, and the Lions again thank hosts Tom Burden and Debbie Strucker for their support.

A successful wine raffle was made possible with contributions by Lions Treasurer and McKenzie River Chamber of Commerce Pres. Kimlyn Esser,  Walt Wilson, Pres. of the Vida-McKenzie Community Center, bought so many tickets that he was a lucky winner twice.  Faith Bokros of Leaburg snagged the evening’s big prize of the 50/50 raffle.

The Lions wish to thank all their many friends for their participation.  There were representatives from the river guides, lodging vendors, Chamber of Commerce members, area service organizations, and other Lions clubs.  Clayton Robson, Pres. of the Blue McKenzie Lions, and Darrell Scott, Mohawk Valley Lion and District Zone Chair, were both lunch attendees.  Newest club member Chris Mayes, with wife Jennie Hawthorne Mayes, brought children and fun to the afternoon activities.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will support such river valley essentials as the Leaburg Library and McKenzie Mobile Meals.
