240 life jackets were exchanged

Life jacket exchangeSPRINGFIELD: The Lane County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue program, in conjunction with the Emerald Valley Rotarians and Cabela’s, conducted their third annual Life Jacket Exchange for Lane County residents this past weekend.

According to Search and Rescue coordinator John Miller, during the two-day event, over 240 life jackets were provided to the public. “The event got unused life jackets out of garages and storage and back into circulation where they can save lives,” Miller said. “Additionally, 175 various sized jackets were donated this year in anticipation of next year’s event.” More child and youth sizes were handed out this year than last.

Thank you to everyone who donated their time and life jackets for this event. Without the volunteers and donations, this service would not be possible.

Additional donations or requests for life jackets can be made Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Sheriff’s reception area, 125 E. 8th Ave. at the Lane County Public Service Building.
