Master Recycler Program

People can learn how to reduce waste, conserve natural resources, motivate others to change their habits, and make a difference in their community by joining the Lane County Master Recycler Program.

Lane County Waste Management Division offers three training courses each year that provide comprehensive training in solid waste prevention, reuse, recycling, and compost education. In return for the 30+ hours of training, students are expected to provide 30 hours of volunteer outreach in the community — teaching fellow Lane County citizens how to reduce, reuse, recycle, and rethink. Students can volunteer for existing programs and activities or create their own.

The Master Recycler training course includes 35 hours of instruction: nine Tuesday evening classes and three Saturday morning field trips to area solid waste and recycling sites. Instructors are experts in solid waste management, waste prevention, reuse, and recycling from the many local businesses, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations that make up this thriving part of our economy.

Courses are offered in the Eugene/Springfield twice each year. A course will also be held in one rural town each year.
