Project Summary: This project will preserve the existing highway by grinding and replacing two inches of asphalt in most areas and reconstructing the eastbound portions of the 42nd Street interchange. The project will also improve safety by constructing a cable median barrier between Mohawk Blvd. and East Main Street (MP 6.24-9.97).

Comments: Most work is being done at night to avoid peak travel times. Expect single lane and ramp closures in both directions between I-5 and Main Street. Construction will continue until late September. Much of the work will be completed at night to avoid peak travel times.

During construction, motorists can expect single lane closures in both directions; ramp closures; and a weekend closure of the 42nd Street eastbound interchange. Nighttime closures of single lanes on Highway 126 will be occurring between I-5 and Main Street through the morning of August 8th.

Upcoming lane closures and ramps closures include: Cable Median Barrier – Mohawk to Main Street: Some work in the median and short-term lane closures are possible during the day, nighttime work and short-term lane closures. Work to continue through early September.

Paving – Pioneer Parkway, Mohawk, 42nd St, and Main Street ramps: Night time ramp closures and lane closures Monday night through Thursday night (Friday morning) Aug. 1 through Aug. 8th (morning of Aug. 9th) to grind and pave Highway 126. Irregular surfaces on bridge decks – Pioneer Parkway Bridge, 5th Street Bridge 28th Street Bridges, and McKenzie Overflow Bridges (near 52nd Street): Mircromill of pavement on bridge decks is complete some have been repaved. Abrupt edges along the center stripes can occur for 24 hours and are signed for no lane changes. Pavement will be replaced during night paving operations, anticipated to be complete by August 8th.

Permanent Striping – I-5 to Main Street: Nighttime lane closures will occur Aug. 12th through Aug. 15th for permanent striping. Motorists should monitor http://www.tripcheck.com and http://www.keepusmoving.info for the latest closure information.
