Refuge Ride unicyclists coming to McKenzie River

UnicycleWhile performing in Switzerland last year Dustin Kelm met a 10-year-old boy who had just come from Syria. He was told the boy had recently lost both his parents because of the unrest. The moment was seared in Dustin's memory and he began thinking about how he could bring hope and help to the people of Syria affected by the civil war. After discussions with his wife, Katie, the Refuge Ride was born.

On June 21st Dustin and Katie began riding 36 inch "big wheel" unicycles coast-to-coast across the United States - from East to West.

They are riding unsupported - not relying on a support vehicle - to help them identify with the many Syrian refugees and internally displaced people who have fled their homes with only the clothes on their backs. Money raised will aid people affected by the crisis in Syria.

Thursday night, October 2nd, they will be staying in McKenzie Bridge in a room donated by the Belknap Hot Springs Resort.
