Serious injury in Saturday wreck

On Saturday, June 28th, at approximately 3:00 p.m. a 1999 Honda Accord 2 door driven by Janice Marie Smith of Warm Springs Oregon, was traveling eastbound on Hwy. 126 near milepost 28.  For unknown reasons the driver veered onto the soft gravel shoulder, over corrected and crossed the westbound lane - crashing into a rock embankment. The right front passenger was identified as Johanna Polly James Mathison.

There were four juvenile passengers in the back seat ages 12, 8, 6 & 5.  Both adults and two juveniles were transported by ground ambulance to Riverbend Hospital with serious injuries.  Two juveniles were transported by life flight to Riverbend.  After arriving at Riverbend one of the juveniles was taken by life flight to OHSU.

The highway was partially blocked for approximately 2 hours during the investigation.  Seatbelt usage is still being investigated.  OSP were assisted on scene by McKenzie Fire & Rescue and ODOT.
