More lightning today

Fire mapWillamette National Forest - more lightning is expected today. 20 mostly single tree fires by noon 6/27. Moisture and instability moved into much of Oregon overnight and both are headed toward Washington today. This means increasing thunderstorms with new starts likely in both states. The combination of instability, dry fuels and lightning starts will create heavy initial attack activity across the region today and Sunday before conditions moderate on Monday. Instability from a thermal trough over the Oregon Cascades will contribute to burning conditions where new starts are most likely. Thunderstorms will produce rain but conditions are still ripe for a number of large fires due to the combination of factors - mainly widespread lightning.Fire fighters are on it!
