Finn Rock on the auction block

FINN ROCK: A once bustling McKenzie River community could come back to life depending on the plans of a potential new property owner. Set to go up for auction next month is a block parcels that include the site of the historic Finn Rock Logging Camp which, in the 1940s, contained twenty homes.

The current owner is Rosboro of Springfield, a forest products company that is the largest glulam manufacturer in North America. The sale will include over three miles of McKenzie River frontage, in three parcels, with over five million board feet of timber.

One of the sales is for 106 acres on the south bank includes an estimated 9,100 feet of McKenzie River frontage, the old logging camp, the Finn Rock Boat Launch, timber and three building sites.

Accessed by a concrete bridge from Hwy. 126 it features an all-weather  road, power available along the riverfront, and the possibility of constructing up to three cabins or homes. There is an estimated 2,280 MBF of timber, including Douglas-fir, white woods, red cedar and hardwoods.

Another 8.5 acres along the highway includes the four Elk Creek Cabins. Two are rented and two are vacant – with opportunity for new owner to replace or repair cabins for use as year-round or vacation rentals.

Some 9,200 feet of south bank McKenzie River frontage are part of what’s called the McKenzie River West property. The land there covers 145 acres and includes another 3,280 MBF of timber and the  rock quarry. According to the sales literature, three year-round private retreats with a riverfront setting might be built there.

Details on the sale are available from Realty Marketing Northwest of Portland, with sealed bids due on November 18th. The reserve price for the bids is $3 million.
