Over the last 11 days the Lane County Sheriff’s Office has been assigning extra patrols to the McKenzie Bridge community due to the fire activity. This provided a law enforcement presence in areas that do not routinely see patrols. During several occasions, the deputy assigned used available time to follow-up on previously reported crimes that occurred prior to the fire activity. Several community members provided useful information and relayed concerns regarding people and specific residences believed to be involved in criminal activity.
The investigations resulted in recovering stolen property and arrests being made. Arrests were made for new charges in addition to outstanding warrants. Some of the investigations are still ongoing and involve suspects who are cooperating with deputies.
The following arrests were made during the course of this investigation:
On 09.08.2017 Cortney Anne Boone (33, from Springfield) was arrested on a warrant for Child Neglect II.
On 09.08.2017 Justin Matthew Smith (28, from Vida) was taken into custody for Theft by Receiving and warrants for Elude and Parole Violation. A previously reported stolen bicycle valued at $2,500 was recovered during the arrest. The bicycle had been taken from a McKenzie area resort. The victim documented the incident by filing a Citizen Report Form.
On 09.09.2017 Amanda Leerose Emlay (26, from Vida) was arrested for parole violations on Robbery and Unlawful use of a vehicle.
On 09.10.2017 Brian Lynn Edwards (45, from Eugene) was arrested for a failure to appear on a DUII warrant.
On 09.11.2017 Whitney Storm Taylor (26, from Eugene) was arrested for a probation violation warrant regarding possession of methamphetamine
On 09.15.2017 David Garcia (36, from Blue River) was found hiding in a garage and arrested for Burglary I, three counts of Theft I- firearms. David received a superficial injury during his arrest when he was apprehended with the assistance of an LCSO K-9.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all those who helped with these investigations, and to remind residents to record serial numbers of valuables. Some of these cases would not have been resolved had the victims not been able to provide the serial numbers associated with their stolen items.
