McKenzie River Reflections - Make the McKenzie Connection!

By Dan Purkey

There is no doubt the word “Indigo” has special significance to Linda Chmiel; beyond the tropical plant of the pea family, which was cultivated as a source of dark blue dye. Human Indigo adults are known for being intelligent, creative, promoting a healthy peaceful life and having an innate desire to make the earth better!

After growing up in Englewood, California, and graduating from Cal State Long Beach in Fine Arts, Linda became a seeker of personal wisdom from the Sequoia National Park, covered wagon living, to Breitenbush Hot Springs and eventually on to the McKenzie River. One of the ways she discovered to enrich our world was through organic cooking. With over 20+ years of self-taught experiences, Linda became an aficionado of healthy food.

Within those years of experience, growing organic veggies in her garden and planning for the future; Linda started the Indigo Café (Blue River) four years ago! I challenge you to prepare your palate for unbelievable dishes from Smoked Pastrami Reuben to Loaded Baked Potato and finishing with a Guinness Stout Chocolate Brownie Sundae! As she states online: “ …charming vintage 1957 food cart/internet café/serves delicious rice bowls and wraps/feature smoked pork, teriyaki and BBQ chicken, salmon and tofu…”

As one person commented: “Amazing food of varying types. In an area filled with burgers and steaks, it’s an oasis of great tasting alternatives.” Not only is the experience eclectic, but you will be fascinated to learn that Linda is involved in hide tanning, stone carving, hiking with Gracie Lou (her border collie healer) and much more! We are so fortunate to be enriched with individuals like Linda along the McKenzie River!

The Indigo Café, 51668 Blue River Drive – (541) – 972-2783 – Closed Monday – Tuesday – All the other days (11 – 6 pm).
