After Michele and I spent ten years in the corporate funeral world, it was refreshing to visit a family-owned funeral home where Todd and Joy Slack shared, “ It is not only our job to take care of those who have passed, but those left behind to grieve….we will always show you the compassion and understanding you deserve. When you honor us with the trust of caring for your loved one, you honor us by becoming a part of our family.”

Todd and Joy were high school sweethearts from Randle, Washington. After four years working with his dad in a sawmill, Todd visited his uncle (Frank Akin) at his funeral home in Hood River. Soon, Todd found himself making a house-call, and that was the beginning of his funeral career!

With experience garnered under mentors and different locations (Idaho, Astoria, Seaside, Lincoln Memorial and briefly with the Musgraves at Junction City), Todd, Joy and family bought the Major Funeral Home in 2005!

The history of Major’s began in 1961. Ken Fredricksen and Burns built the funeral home, but the business could only support one family; so they flipped a coin and Burns lost! In 1974 Don Major purchased the funeral home. Subsequently, Todd and Joy took over the reins in 2005, keeping the local family concept alive! With the assistance of Henry Miller and Michelle, Todd and Joy have continued to develop a trusting relationship with the community.

Over the last 14 years, they have bought and sold Hughes – Ransom in Eugene; and currently own Oakridge Chapel of the Woods. All have the same theme: “A family’s love is forever!” Specializing in all aspects of burial and cremation packages, a celebration of life is always encouraged.

They are here for you! 112 N. A. Street, Springfield, Or. 541-746-9667…..24 hours, 7 days a week. One level, wheelchair assessable, newly remodeled and ample parking. Allow them to become a part of your family journey. They care!
