Scammer posing as Search & Rescue near McKenzie Bridge

The Sheriff's Office has received reports that there are people in the McKenzie Bridge area going door to door claiming to be Lane County Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteers doing welfare checks.  The Sheriff's Office does not have volunteers going door to door.

The Sheriff's Office advises that if someone comes to your door and identifies themselves as SAR, you can let them know you are there if you are comfortable doing so (say “no thank you”) so they don’t think your house is empty - but do not open the door if possible.  You can report anyone posing as SAR to the Sheriff’s Office at 541-682-4150 then press 1 for dispatch, unless it’s an emergency then dial 9-1-1.
