McKenzie Varsity Sports Schedule This Week

The McKenzie Varsity Boys and Girls Track and Field Teams travel to Mapleton on Wednesday, May 5, to participate in the Mapleton May Meet. Field events at the Mapleton Track will start at 4:00 pm and track events start at 4:30 pm. Teams scheduled for the Meet are Crow, Elkton, Mapleton, Mohawk, Riddle, Siletz Valley, Triangle Lake and McKenzie.

Eagle Boys Finish Second, Girls Third At Sisters Track Meet

The McKenzie Boys Track and Field team finished second to host Sisters last Friday, April 30, and the Eagle Girls team rode home with third place. The Eagle Boys scored 61 points (eleven of the Eagle thirteen scores posted were personal records) and Sisters won the day with 225 points. Cascades Academy of Central Oregon finished third with 30 pts. and Gilchrist was fourth with 16 pts. Sisters also won the girl’s team competition, amassing 194.5 pts. on the afternoon. Cascades Academy of Central Oregon earned 36 pts. to place second, McKenzie tallied 21.5 pts. and Gilchrist wrapped up the meet with 18 pts.

Eagle freshman Levi Lockhart had a big day at the track, placing 2nd in the Shot Put, 3rd in the Discus, and 5th in the Javelin. Lockhart put the shot 33-03.5 ft and sophomore teammate Cody Moralas finished 5th with a toss of 22-10.50 ft. Cameron Wessel of Sisters won the Shot Put with a toss of 35-03.00 ft.

In the Discus event, Lockhart’s 3rd place throw was measured at 98-03 ft., Moralas’ throw of 63-11 ft. was good for 5th place, and freshman teammate Thomas Hayes took 6th place with a measured mark of 63-05 ft. Miguel Gaona of Sisters won the Discus at 109-10 ft.

The Javelin event was won by Gaona as well, the Sisters Outlaw participant throwing the javelin 136-00 ft. Eagle sophomore Trent Peek finished 4th with a throw of 109-11ft., Lockhart was 5th with 101-04 ft., Hayes finished 8th at 92-06 ft. and Moralas took 11th with a toss of 64-00 ft.

Peek won the Triple Jump, leaping 29-07.50 ft. and was the top Eagle in the Long Jump, finishing 3rd with a mark of 14-05.00 ft. Hayes finished 4th in the Long Jump with a leap of 12-00.00 ft. and Moralas took 5th at 7-05.00 ft. The winning Long Jump mark of 20-00.50 ft. was earned by Hayden Sharp of Sisters.

Peek ran a 13.82 second time in the 100 meters event, good for 7th place and the race was won by Collin Fischer of Sisters in a time of 12.16 sec.

The Eagle girls were paced by sister teammates Hannah and Hailey Prater. Sophomore Hailey finished tied for 3rd in the Javelin with Sisters’ Emilie Turpin, both girls throwing the spear 48-10 ft.

Eagle junior Hannah finished 5th with a throw of 27-10 ft. and the Javelin event was won by Lexie Miller of Sisters with a throw of 95-00 ft. Miller also won the Shot Put with a toss of 30-06.00 ft. Hannah Prater finished 6th in the Shot Put with a mark of 20-07.00 ft. and Hailey finished 7th at 19-06.00 ft.

In the Discus, Hannah took home 5th place, throwing the disc 45-08 ft. and Hailey finished right behind her in 6th place with a toss of 44-09 ft. The Discus event was won by Chloe Wessel of Sisters with a mark of 74-08 ft.

All of the marks established by the Eagle girls were personal records.
