Architect chosen to design larger downtown building

BLUE RIVER: The board of the O'Brien Memorial Library (OML) has chosen an architectural firm to work with them in designing the new OML in Blue River. The process to design the building and grounds is expected to result in construction. start sometime next year.

In addition to the existing property, the libray has purchased two lots adjoining the old library site. That added acreage will allow the OML to be located on main street frontage at the intersection of Blue River and Dexter Street. The setting is expected to provide better visibility and easier access, as well as more parking for meetings, classes, and events.

The board says their plans for a larger library will include space for more books, DVDs, and a children's section. Other features range from a room to read and study in, public access computers, WiFi, local artists' displays, and a meeting room.

Outside, native plants will be planted on the grounds as part of an overall design that will reflect the community's unique heritage. Other features are a gathering space to walk, read, and enjoy mountain views and peaceful river melodies.

People are encouraged to visit and become an OML member for free at the temporary OML site inside the Upper McKenzie Community Center at 54745 McKenzie River Drive in Rainbow. A large selection of books, DVDs, E-books, and audiobooks is available there.

The Community Center library is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m, and on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. More information is available at 458-459-0027 or at obrienlibrary.org - including how to stream E-books or audiobooks, or review the library's book and DVD catalog.

Donations, always appreciated and can be sent to: OML, P.O.B. 291, Blue River, OR 97413.
