The McKenzie Community Chorus' first rehearsal of the season is set for September 9th from 6:30 - 8:30pm at McKenzie Bible Fellowship, 45061 McK. Hwy. in Waterville. The chorus invites people to discover the joy of collective song.

With no auditions, the focus remains on musical delight and genuine connection. Under the guidance of Director Jamie Sieminski, the chorus is preparing for heartfelt seasonal concerts. Eugene Water & Electric Board officials are reassuring McKenzie Valley residents that precautions are being taken to reduce wildfire risk as crews clear vegetation along the Leaburg Canal.

The utility said it has received several inquiries from residents concerned about crews continuing vegetation work during the hotter part of the day, when restrictions on activities that could start a wildfire are often in effect.

According to EWEB Communications, the utility's contractor has obtained a waiver from the Oregon Department of Forestry allowing crews to continue operating after 10 a.m.

Crews also have fire suppression equipment on site and are using string trimmers rather than metal cutting blades, which reduces the possibility of equipment striking rocks and producing sparks.

The contractor is also required to conduct a fire watch after work is completed to make sure no fire has started in or around the area where vegetation was cleared.

Mckenzie Community Communications/Upper Mckenzie GMRS Radio Net is co-hosting this community potluck event with Upper Mckenzie Community Center on Septembe 24 at 6 pm to help connect neighbors during outages and disasters. Lane County's new emergency manager, Monica Larcom, will also be attending.

McKenzie Community Communications Emergency Communications Planning (MCC) and community partners operate a valley-wide emergency communications network using a Neighbor-to-Neighbor framework, organized into 3 zones along the river. MCC will be working with local community partners to enlist volunteers to join emergency communication teams organized within the following zones: Upper McKenzie (McKenzie Bridge, Blue River); Middle Valley (Nimrod, Vida); and Down River (Leaburg, Walterville, Cedar Flat)
