McKenzie Varsity Sports Schedule This Week

The McKenzie Varsity Volleyball team hosts Mapleton on Wednesday, September 2. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 pm. The Eagle team travels to Mohawk on Thursday, September 3, to participate in a three-way match. McKenzie plays host Mohawk at 4:00 pm and follows with a match versus Eugene Christian at 5:30 pm. The Eagle team will host Crow / Northwest Christian Academy on Tuesday, September 8, and that match time is scheduled for 6:00 pm. The McKenzie Varsity Six-man Football team hosts Country Christian on Friday, September 4, and kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

Eagle Six-Man Football Opens 2026 Season

With 56-25 Thumping By Ione/Arlington

McKenzie's home/season opener didn't fare thee well if you hail from the local River Valley. The Eagles launched their 2026 Fall Campaign versus the visiting Ione/Arlington Cardinals non-league game. The Cardinals represented the 1A(6)-SD1 Special District 1 League from the East side of the Cascades. McKenzie is a member of the 1A(6)-SD3 Special District 3 League, all Western Oregon teams. Ione/Arlington took control of this game from the start as the first play of the game, a pass attempt by McKenzie Quarterback Hayden Kumle was intercepted and the Cardinals scored shortly thereafter. McKenzie never tied nor took the lead the rest of the way and the Cardinals romped to a 56-25 rout.

McKenzie Girls Drop Opener To Falls City,

Beat Jewell and Yoncalla

The Eagle Varsity Volleyball team scheduled a three-way contest to open their 2026 season. But Jewell called up and asked to be in the gym the same day, so the three-way morphed into a four-way home opening affair for the McKenzie Eagles. First up on the day was Falls City / Kings Valley Charter and the Mountaineers easily defeated their Eagle hosts 25-9 in the first set of the new season. McKenzie found their way however in the second set and although finally dropping it, they were competitive and lost 22-25. Up next was the Jewell Blue Jays, fresh off an opening 2-0 (25-19, 25-17) victory over the Yoncalla Eagles. McKenzie's new found swagger continued to serve them well and they defeated Jewell, 25-13 and 25-22. The final match of the day for the McKenzie gals was against the Yoncalla Eagles, who defeated Falls City / Kings Valley Charter, 2-1. The first set was very competitive and McKenzie finally put Yoncalla down with a 25-22 first set victory. The Finn Rock Eagles finished off the day with a second set victory, 25-17. On the other side of the gym, Falls City / Kings Valley Charter defeated Jewell, 2-1 (22-25, 25-18, 15-4).

Zyla Drake Finishes Eighth At JC Rust Buster

Cylus Sughroue Takes Fourteenth

McKenzie Cross Country runner Zyla Drake ran her first 3,000 meters race of the 2026 season and the Eagle junior started off well with an eighth place finish at the JC Rust Buster held at Junction City High School, on Saturday, August 29. Drake finished in a time of 12:36.38 minutes, a new Personal Best. She competed against 55 finishers, representing 11 schools from all classifications. Tori Sherman, a senior out of Marist, won the girls 3,000-meter race in a time of 11:41.68 minutes. Eagle sophomore Cylas Sughroue's time of 10:31.44 minutes was also a Personal Best and a fourteenth place finish. There were 105 finishing athletes in the boys’ 3.000 meters race. Corbin Sage of Marist won the boys race in a time of 8:46.88 minutes.
