Norm Carter

On Monday January 27, 2025, at 88 years young, Norman Cleo Carter passed away peacefully in his lifelong McKenzie River home.
Norman Carter was born on November 15, 1936 in Eugene Oregon. As a kid, he lived in Leaburg on the family farm. He went to school and graduated from Springfield High in 1955.
In 1956, Norm enlisted in the Army where he was stationed in France and Germany. He first was an MP and then later transferred to transportation.
After getting out of the Army, he met Donna Kellogg in 1958 and they got married in 1959. They spent 65 adventurous years together and raised three rambunctious daughters.
Norm had many talents and a variety of careers. He worked in the woods, on ranches, did fabricating, welding and rebuilt just about every tractor on the river. Norm wasn’t short on hobbies either. He not only loved to go hunting and fishing, his outdoor adventures also included metal detecting, prospecting and dredging the occasional creek. He enjoyed a good garage sale and tinkering on all of his great finds. Norm was a magician working with wood. There are many homes that showcase his wonderful talent.
Norm was a lifelong McKenzie Valley resident, not living further than 5 miles from where he grew up on the family’s century farm. This is other than his stint in the military.
Norm is survived by his lovely wife Donna, his three daughters Candy (Steve), Carla (Joe), and Carrie (Barker). He is also survived by five grandkids, Zane (Pebbles), Haley (Garrett), Ukiaha (Kinsley), Branden (Bethany) Aaron (Maya) and six great grandchildren Lincoln, Luke, Ari, Ellie Kate, Nora and Scarlett.
A Celebration of Life for those who knew and loved Norm will be on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 2 pm at the Walterville Community Center (Grange). Please come, share stories with the family and have some dessert, Norm’s Favorite part of the meal.
In Lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Wetnose Warriors Outreach, a nonprofit organization that was near and dear to Norm’s heart that helps Veterans. PO Box 4, Vida OR 97488
