Fall Outdoor Burning Delayed Across Lane County

Outdoor burning remains off-limits across Lane County as fire season continues, with the fall burning season now officially delayed until October 15, according to the Lane Fire Defense Board. The restriction applies to all areas of the county and will stay in effect until conditions improve.
Backyard burning was originally closed June 7, when fire season began. Residents are urged to check the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency (LRAPA) website at lrapa.org for daily burn approvals and to contact their local fire authority for up-to-date regulations.
Typically, the fall outdoor burning season runs from early October through October 31 for residents within or near Eugene, Springfield, and Oakridge who meet eligibility criteria. Once burning opens, residents in “Elsewhere Lane County” – those outside Eugene, Springfield, Oakridge, Florence, and their urban growth boundaries (UGBs) – may burn yard debris during the daily approved periods from the start of the fall season until the close of spring burning in June.
The spring outdoor burning season normally extends from March 1 to early June.
Burning Safety Tips
Keep debris piles completely dry and monitor them at all times.
Fully extinguish fires by the end of the daily burn window-no overnight smoldering allowed.
Burn only woody yard debris; burning garbage, green waste, or treated wood is prohibited.
Officials urge people to consider alternatives such as composting or wood chipping.
