The Sailor Boys started the night off with a resounding 58-34 defeat of their upland visitors. The Eagle Varsity Girls didn’t fare any better, losing the nightcap, 70-21. Despite the lopsided loss, one Eagle fan expressed pride on the McKenzie Girls stating, “when the girls (Eagles) were down just 10 points, the game was rough, with a lot of physical bumping, elbows, etc. from the home team (Mapleton). Our girls never gave up and although the Sailors were bigger athletes and more experienced, our girls competed hard and we were very proud of them not giving in without a great effort.”

The McKenzie teams returned to Finn Rock on Thursday, January 22, to host the Lakers of Triangle Lake. Again, the Eagle Boys took to the court first on the evening’s schedule. The Lakers, currently tied for the Mt. West League lead with Eddyville Charter and Mohawk, all at 2-0, routed the home team 65-45, dropping the Eagles to 0-3 in the MWL standings and 3-11 on the season.

The Triangle Lake Girls are likewise in a four-way tie at the top of the MWL standings. Mapleton, 3-0, holds a half-game lead over Mohawk, Alsea, and Triangle Lake, all 2-0. Triangle Lake earned that mark last Thursday in Finn Rock with a 40-28 thumping of their Eagle hosts. McKenzie dropped to 0-3 in the latest Mt. West League standings and sit 2-11 on the season overall.
