Burn Season
The Spring Burn Season opened March 1 in Lane County, allowing residents to burn woody yard debris through early June.
Each day, the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency (LRAPA) issues a burning advisory announcing whether burning is allowed and specifying approved hours. Decisions are based on weather conditions that help smoke disperse safely and minimize impacts on neighboring properties.
In unincorporated Lane County, including the McKenzie Valley, there is no minimum lot size requirement, while in Springfield and its Urban Growth Boundary, a minimum lot size of one-half acre required.
People are advised to burn only dry woody yard debris such as branches and brush. Burning garbage, treated wood, plastics, or green yard waste is prohibited and can result in citations of up to $500, in addition to releasing toxic pollutants into the air.
Burn piles must be attended at all times and fully extinguished before the daily advisory window closes. Overnight burning and smoldering fires are not allowed.
Residents can check the daily burn advisory at lrapa-or.gov or by calling the burn line at 541-726-3976.
Egg Hunt
The Easter Bunny plans to make his annual visit to the Walterville Grange Community Hall on Saturday, April 4. He promises to be busy hiding lots of Easter eggs for kiddos to find.
Don’t be late – the hunt will begin at 10 am sharp, so don’t be late (they go fast). Young egg hunters are reminded to bring their own baskets to hold the eggs they find.
Every egg will have a goody in it. And, there will be some special golden eggs with special prizes.
Yard Sale
People looking to declutter their homes, hunt for bargains, or support local programs will have the chance to do all three at the upcoming Community Yard Sale on Saturday, March 7, at the Upper McKenzie Community Center.
The sale will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 54745 McKenzie River Drive in Rainbow. Vendors may set up between 8 and 9 a.m.
Community members can reserve a table for $20 and keep 100% of their proceeds. Organizers encourage sellers to bring clean, gently used, resale-ready items as a way to earn extra cash while giving belongings a second life.
Those who prefer not to host a table may donate items to a community sale table. Proceeds from donated goods will go directly to the Upper McKenzie Community Center to support local programs and events.
Organizers say maintaining quality is key to making the event enjoyable for shoppers. Items should be gently used, clean, complete and fully functional. Heavily worn, stained, broken or incomplete items will not be accepted.
To reserve a table or arrange a donation, email umccevents@gmail.com for more information.
Egg hunters will be part of three age groups: 4 and under; 5 and 6; and 7 and above.
The Easter egg hunt will be held at 39259 Camp Creek Road in Walterville. There is no charge, and all are welcome. For more information call 541-521-4760 and leave a message; calls will be retuned.
