A Busy Campus Behind the Scenes This Spring Break

While Spring Break offers students and families a well-earned opportunity to rest and recharge, it is also one of the busiest times of the year behind the scenes on our campus. This week, I’d like to highlight the important work happening while students are away and recognize the many people who help keep our schools safe, clean, and ready for learning.

Our facilities staff plays a critical role during breaks like this. With classrooms empty and hallways quiet, they are able to focus on deep cleaning and maintenance projects that are difficult to complete during the regular school schedule. From thoroughly cleaning classrooms and common areas to addressing repairs and upkeep needs, their work ensures that students return to a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment.

In addition to the work of our facilities team, several important projects are taking place across campus this week. Turnley Construction will be on site to repair a covered walkway that was damaged earlier this year by a delivery truck.

We are also making needed upgrades and repairs to our septic systems, supported by county fire recovery funds. These improvements are an important investment in our infrastructure and help ensure that our facilities continue to operate reliably for years to come. Projects like these may not always be visible, but they are essential to the long-term health and functionality of our school campus.

While much of this work happens out of sight, it reflects a broader commitment to stewardship of the spaces where our students learn, grow, and connect each day. We are grateful for the coordination and effort required from our staff and partners to complete this work efficiently during the break.

Looking ahead, I also want to share an important update from last week. The District Board of Directors officially adopted the school calendar for the 2026–2027 school year. One notable change is that classes will begin before Labor Day, which has not been the case in McKenzie for several years. This adjustment allows us to better balance instructional time across the year and align more closely with regional schedules.

Families and community members can view the full 2026–2027 calendar by visiting the district website or by using the following link: https://aptg.co/l6kkk9. We encourage families to review the calendar early to help plan for the upcoming school year.

Even during a quieter week on campus, the work of supporting students continues. Whether it is maintaining our facilities, completing necessary repairs, or planning ahead for future school years, each of these efforts contributes to a strong and stable learning environment.

As students enjoy their Spring Break, we look forward to welcoming them back to a refreshed campus and a strong start to the final stretch of the school year. Thank you, as always, for your continued support of McKenzie schools.
