Rowers Regatta

The Oregon Association of Rowers (OAR) will host a Collegiate Regatta at the Lowell State Recreation Site & Marina on March 28 at 9 am.

And, each year in April for more than a quarter century, OAR, along with help from the South Eugene Rowing Club and the University of Oregon Crew Team, will again host the Covered Bridge Regatta, also on Dexter Lake. This regatta covers two weekends; the first a one-day Collegiate event and the second a two-day Masters and Juniors event. As one of the top rowing venues in the country, the Covered Bridge Regatta now regularly draws over 40 teams hailing from Arizona to British Columbia to compete in the 8-lane fully-buoyed 2000-meter course.

There will be no shuttle for the Collegiate Covered Bridge Regatta, and a free one between Lowell High School and the park in April starting at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, continuing as late as needed. (Or allow 10-15 minutes to walk). For more information: joinoar@gmail.com

Locals Coffee

The April 7 Locals Helping Locals coffee (10 am at the Obsidian Grill in McKenzie Bridge) will have a special guest presenter – Brendan J. Irsfeld, Emergency Coordinator with the Lane County Office of Emergency Management.

Brendan has been facilitating a series of regional Community Wildfire Protection Plan update work sessions in four regions of Lane county – including the McKenzie River Valley. He’ll be giving an overview of the CWPP update work being done county wide, and specifically reflections on the recent work sessions here.

A CWPP is a plan that communities create collaboratively with local and state fire protection and land management agencies. It also focuses on actions meant to reduce the risk of wildfires, enhance local ecosystem health, protect vital infrastructure, and increase the safety of residents and first responders in the event of a wildfire.
