Returning to Routine and Finishing Strong

As we return from Spring Break, we are entering an important stretch of the school year. With the fourth quarter just ahead, this is a great time for students, families, and staff to refocus, reestablish routines, and finish the year strong.

Breaks are important. They give students time to rest, recharge, and spend time with family. At the same time, returning to school routines, consistent bedtimes, regular attendance, and focused effort can take a few days to reestablish. This is a great opportunity for families to help reinforce those habits so students are ready to make the most of the weeks ahead.

This Thursday marks the end of the third quarter, an important milestone in the academic year. It is a natural point for students to reflect on their progress, celebrate successes, and identify areas where they want to improve. The fourth quarter often brings meaningful growth as students build on what they have learned and focus on finishing the year on a positive note.

Regular attendance continues to be one of the most important factors in student success during this final stretch. Each day in the classroom matters, not only for academic learning, but also for maintaining connections with teachers, classmates, and school activities. Strong routines at home help ensure students arrive ready to engage, learn, and contribute.

This week also brings a number of events that reflect both learning and student engagement across our schools. On Tuesday, our elementary students will celebrate CATCH Day, promoting healthy choices and active lifestyles, while also marking an exciting milestone, the 100th Day of School. These moments help build enthusiasm and connection, especially for our younger learners.

On Wednesday, our Transportation Team will meet as they continue their work supporting safe and reliable service for our students each day. We appreciate the important role they play in connecting students to school.

Thursday marks the end of the third quarter, and both our middle school and high school track teams will be in action. The middle school team will travel to Mapleton for their spring meet, while the high school team will compete at home, hosting the McKenzie River Relays at the McKenzie Community Track and Field. We are grateful for the partnership and support that allows us to host events in such a quality facility and look forward to a great day of competition.

On Friday, there will be no classes as teachers take part in a grading day, finalizing third quarter marks and preparing for the transition into the fourth quarter. Administrators will also participate in the Center for Educational Leadership Academy at Lane ESD, continuing the focus on strengthening instructional leadership and supporting student success. Meanwhile, the middle school track team will compete at the Oregon Relays on both Friday and Saturday.

As we begin this final quarter of the school year, I encourage students to set a goal, whether it is improving attendance, raising a grade, getting more involved, or simply giving their best effort each day. Small, consistent actions can make a big difference in the weeks ahead.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to help every McKenzie student finish the year strong.
