Strong Systems and Strong People

As we move further into the fourth quarter, this week provides an opportunity to highlight both the systems that support our students and the people who keep our schools running smoothly each day.

Recently, Governor Tina Kotek issued an executive order related to instructional time across Oregon school districts. This order is intended to address concerns in districts that have reduced student instructional time in recent years. I want to share with our community that this executive order does not impact McKenzie School District. In fact, rather than reducing instructional time, we have increased it this school year.

Maintaining and prioritizing instructional time reflects our commitment to student learning. Every minute in the classroom matters, and we have worked intentionally to ensure our students have consistent, meaningful opportunities to engage in learning throughout the school day. While statewide conversations continue around schedules and funding, we are confident in the structure we have in place to support student success.

This week is also Administrative Professionals Week, and it is an important time to recognize a group of individuals who play a vital role in our schools. Our administrative professionals are often the first point of contact for students, families, and community members. They manage the daily operations of our offices, coordinate communication, support staff and students, and help ensure that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.

Their work requires organiz-ation, problem solving, patience, and a deep commitment to serving others. Whether it is answering questions, supporting families, assisting students, or keeping our systems organized, they are essential to the success of our district. We are grateful for the dedication and care they bring to their work each day. Thank you to all of our administrative professionals for the important role you play in supporting McKenzie students and families.

This week also includes continued work on district priorities. On Monday, the district and the Classified Association will meet at 4:30 p.m. in the District Office to continue the collective bargaining process. We appreciate the collaborative effort and professionalism that both teams bring to this work as we support our staff and plan for the future.

On Wednesday, our Middle School Track team will host the Middle School Mountain West League Meet at the McKenzie Community Track and Field, with events beginning at 3:30 p.m. We look forward to welcoming visiting schools and appreciate the opportunity for our students to compete at home.

Thursday will be a busy and exciting day. Our elementary students will celebrate their third quarter achievements during their awards assembly, recognizing growth, effort, and success across grade levels. Later in the day, our High School Track team will travel to St. Paul to compete in the Buckaroo Invitational, with field events beginning at 3:30 p.m. That evening, we will also host Kindergarten Orientation at 6:00 p.m., welcoming next year’s kindergarten students and their families and beginning their connection to our school community.

As we continue through the fourth quarter, we remain focused on providing strong learning opportunities for students while supporting the systems and people that make that possible. From instructional time to daily operations, each piece plays a role in creating a positive and effective school environment.

Thank you for your continued support of McKenzie schools and for recognizing the many individuals who contribute to our students’ success every day.
