Richey picked as ‘13 Rodeo Queen

Richey is '13 Rodeo QueenWhitney Richey, 22, of Walterville, Oregon, was crowned as the 2013 Sisters Rodeo Queen on October 7th, on the Sisters Rodeo Grounds. Richey and five other contestants competed for the title.

She is a Thurston High graduate who is currently a 3.5-GPA student at the University of Oregon. She’s previously competed in Pee Wee Rodeo and Junior Rodeo as well as a member of her high school’s equestrian team. In 2005 she was picked as the Yoncalla Rodeo’s Senior Princess. Two years later she became was the Yoncalla Rodeo’s Queen.

Judges rated Richey highly for her horsemanship on Remi, her 10-year-old quarter horse mare. She also gained points during an interview and a speech to rodeo members and guests.

Her parents are Debbi and Craig Richey, both lifelong horse people who like to trail ride from their Walterville home. Now a member of The Desperado Coed Drill Team, Richey plans to become a dental hygienist.
