Hoping for snow : 1/11/14

By Matthew McFarland, General Manager, Hoodoo Ski Area

Here I sit looking out the window at the lack of snow, full of hope for the weekend storm and wonder what it will bring. We have a huge pond that surrounds the Manzanita lift, which is about 3.5 feet deep. There is roughly 6-8 inches of snow on the runs, with even less at the tops of Ed and Green.

The forecast is calling for 16-26” of snow through the weekend. We will either end up really happy and able to open (at least minimally, if we get the full 26 inches)… or really sad with a bunch of snow in the trees and the runs next to bare with a large polar bear wading pond surrounding the lift base.

We will be monitoring the snowfall continually and hope to drive a snowcat on the hill soon. We’ll do so as early as we can, which will give us a better idea of what the storm is doing for us. We are all keeping our fingers crossed that soon we will be back to work, providing great winter fun. We just need winter to come and the pond to dry up.
