Leaburg fire hall demolished

Fire station will be rebuilt

Leaburg, Oregon fire station demolishedLEABURG: One of McKenzie Fire & Rescue’s five fire stations is no more. Crews that dismantled the Leaburg station last week, however, are now busy erecting an enlarged replacement that will include administrative offices as well as equipment bays.

Current the department’s staff works out of the Walterville Station - located at the far west end of the fire district. The solution, in the works for several years, was to make a move to the east.

The new, nearly 10,000 square foot building will include offices, apparatus bays, a dedicated maintenance bay, small shop area, a workout space, and sleeping quarters - along with space for logistical equipment now located at other stations.

Plans are that Leaburg will become the district’s main station and as well as the main inventory and supply location for our other locations.

The good news is that remaining funds from the fire district’s 2000 and 2010 levies - as well as funds from the land and building reserve account - will pay for the $1.4 million station.
